Protecting Our National Symbols and Motto
There are symbols in American life that provide us a sense of national unity and a hope for the future. Our American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance personify the liberties, freedoms, and values for which our nation’s heroes have fought and died. Congressman Forbes has introduced legislation reaffirming “In God We Trust” as the official motto of the United States. The resolution supports and encourages the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions.
Restoring the Rule of Law in America
When a small handful of unelected judges reach beyond the scope of their appropriate Constitutional role and begin to rewrite law from the bench, they are undermining one of the fundamental foundations of our unique government. Today, Americans are witnessing the assassination of our institutions for short-term political outcomes. It is not worth destroying an institution for political purposes. We must ensure that the decisions we make now continue to give value to the essential principles and precepts that have made our country great and will do so for our children and grandchildren.
Preserving Our Religious Heritage and Prayer in America
Religious faith was not only important in American life during periods of discovery, colonization, and growth, but it has been incorporated into all three branches of our federal government since their beginning. Our religious heritage and our ability as Americans to freely express our faith through prayer are critical underpinnings of our nation's most valuable institutions. We must see that these important aspects of our nation's history are not erased, removed, or purposely omitted from our public buildings or educational resources. Congressman Forbes is founder and co-chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, a bipartisan group of over 60 Members of Congress who are dedicated to protecting the right of faith in the marketplace of ideas. Congressman Forbes has also introduced legislation to affirm the spiritual and religious history of our nation’s founding and subsequent history.
Promoting a Culture of Life and Traditional Marriage
Congressman Forbes has never wavered in his support of policies that protect America’s unborn children as well as laws that continue to uphold the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Empowering Churches and Organizations to Meet Community Needs
On the front line of meeting the challenges facing our nation over the past several years have been our charities, churches, universities, housing nonprofits, clinics, food kitchens, and job training centers. Congressman Forbes has introduced legislation to increase the ability of citizens – rather than the federal government – to meet the needs of their communities and of the nation. The Citizens’ Choice Act would allow up to a $1,000 federal tax credit for charitable contributions, providing a dollar-for-dollar reduction in their tax bills.
Upholding the Second Amendment
The second amendment to the Constitution reads, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Congressman Forbes has worked to see that the laws and regulations of the federal government are consistent with a citizen’s right to keep and bear arms.
Finding Common Ground Between Technology and Morality
Congressman Forbes supports the use of stem cells that are ethically obtained, including adult stem cells and stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood, and supports funding for research programs using these types of stem cell research. Congressman Forbes has introduced legislation that bridges the political divide over embryonic stem cell research and focuses on the common goal shared by both sides of the embryonic stem cell debate - curing and treating patients.
